Lack of Funding for the Arts and P.E.? How About Getting Rid of the FCAT?! __http://reseteducation.wordpress.com/2010/03/10/lack-of-funding-for-the-arts-and-p-e-how-about-getting-rid-of-the-fcat/__
This article talks about how it is important to have fine arts programs in schools because it helps children stimulate there brain. Giving children a time everyday to work on arts helps children process the information they learn in class creatively. Music, theater, and visual arts help make connections for math skills and reading comprehension. If there is a lack of funding and these programs are cut the children do not have this ability.
I feel that this article has a good point, children need a break in their day so that they can process the information they learned in their own way. If you just constantly push information into them they wont be able to comprehend it all, they will remember parts of it but not all of it. They need the break in their day to reenergize their brain and to process the information in their own creative way.

This article shows that fine arts is supposed to be a part of the curriculum but schools over look that because of budget cuts. Certain schools do not require fine arts to be a part of the school. When the budget becomes smaller fine arts and other activities are the first to be cut. Research is being done to try and bring fine arts back into school. This is a nation wide problem, all over fine arts programs are being cut due to budget cuts.
I feel like this article does a good job at showing the reason for fine arts being cut. Schools don’t find it as important as Math or English so when the schools lose money they drop fine arts. Fine arts is just as important as any other subject, it may not provide a lot of information but it helps children work their brain and express themselves, and also helps them process information.
Art Program Funding Continually Draws Shorter __http://newsnet.byu.edu/story.cfm/60262__
This article shows that when art programs are cut student are very disappointed. Students who want a career in fashion couldn’t go through with it due to the budget cuts. Funding of the school comes from the government so they have to decide carefully how they use it. The school chooses to focus on other programs other then art. Resources follow testing, therefore since art isn’t an area tested it tends to be cut.
I feel like this article shows how students feel when their art program gets cut, someone who wants to be a fashion designer can not become one if an art program isn’t available to them. The only reason art is being cut is due to resources and even when they try to have the students pay for the art program its not enough and gets cut. Its not fair to the students who are artistic and want a career in the arts.
School Arts Program Range from Four Star to Nonexistent __http://69.20.65.189/article/arts/20100205/1/3175__
This article shows that there used to be an importance for the fine arts program. Money was set aside for the program, and now has been changed to focus more on Math and English. Schools are required to provide fine arts programs but many schools don’t do so. Many kids go through school without any instruction in theater or dance. Because of the No Child Left Behind Act school put Math and English as a top priority and focus on them so that the students to well. Therefore all the resources go to those departments and art programs get cut.
This article helps us see where the money is going instead of the arts. It also shows that even though fine arts is a state requirement, school still cut the program due to lack of resources. Although there are a good amount of schools that provide the program there are schools that do cut the program and more and more are cutting the fine arts because of resources not being available.
Lack of Funding Limits Resources for Art Department __http://thesoutherneronline.com/frontpage/?p=1041__
This article talks about how students who want to take an instrument can not because there isn’t enough instruments for all the students who want to play. If a child were to want to play an instrument in the schools band they would have to buy their own instrument. Where as some kids may be able to pay for one, other kids are not so lucky. About 80 percent of a schools arts fund were cut, so they don’t have as much money to keep the program going.
School should be given more money to keep the art programs alive. Students shouldn’t have to pay money to do something within the school that they really like to do. Schools should be able to provide all their students with instruments, not just some of the students. Parents pay enough money to send their children to school, they should at least be provided with everything necessary.
